Sustainable Transformation of Egypt’s Aquaculture market System (STREAMS)

The Sustainable Transformation of Egypt’s Aquaculture Market System (STREAMS) project was designed with the overall goal to increase production of inexpensive, nutritious and safe fish from sustainable aquaculture systems to help improve the health and nutrition of Egypt’s resource-poor while creating employment and increasing incomes along the aquaculture value chain. The project was funded by SDC, under domain 2 “Economic Growth” and managed and implemented by WorldFish in partnership with CARE as a sub-contractor and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in five governorates namely: Kafr-El-Sheikh, Fayoum, Behera, Sharkia and Menia. The end project evaluation identifies and assesses results achieved by WorldFish and partners during the project life at outcome and output levels and draws lessons learned and recommendations for WorldFish, the Donor, project stakeholders and partners. Economic Strengthening for a Sustainable Return to Kosovo Midterm Report

Provision to the improvement of living conditions of IDPs and returnees from readmission process in Serbia and support to the sustainable return to Kosovo/Economic Strengthening for a Sustainable Return to Kosovo

The project “Economic Strengthening for a Sustainable Return to Kosovo”, being implemented over a period of 24 months, from July 11, 2018 to July 11, 2020. It is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia and implemented in Serbia, specifically South Serbia, Pcinja District, the City of Vranje, and municipalities Vladicin Han, Surdulica, Bosilegrad, Trgoviste, Bujanovac and Presevo, by CARE and local CSO Nexus as a project partner, and municipality of Vranje, as the supporting project partner.

The overall goal of the project is to enable IDPs and returnees from the readmission process to exercise their full rights, supported by enabling migration policies and processes in Republic of Serbia. This wider impact is planned to be achieved through reaching the specific objective - to support the sustainable process of return to Kosovo, for IDPs and readmissions - persons returned to Republic of Serbia according to the Readmission Agreement in the process of reintegration. The Action was envisaged to provide actions to support a sustainable return of beneficiaries interested to move their households and businesses to Kosovo*. As the narrative interim report demonstrated, there were some alterations in the setup of the project as a result of external political circumstances, which influenced these activities.

TVET and Higher Education for Boosting Road Infrastructure Development and Growth of Energy Services (THE BRIDGES) Project Final Report

CARE Somalia/Somaliland was funded by the European Union (EU) to improve the technical skills of the youth in roads and energy service sectors. The Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Higher Education for Boosting Road Infrastructure Development and Growth of Energy Services (THE BRIDGES) project aim to support the Government of Somalia/Somaliland plans to enhance inclusive economic growth and reduce poverty. The project aims to assist in the development of high-quality skills both for gainful employment and sustainable economic development. To meet labor demands in road infrastructure and energy sectors, the project further aims to strengthen TVET and Higher Education (HE) to offer high-quality solutions responsive to the changing market situations in the selected priority sectors of the economy. Given the increasingly dynamic employment market in Somalia/Somaliland, there is a need for high-quality competency-based skills development. The BRIDGES project sought to enhance the development of national and local capacities of TVET, and Higher Education linked to the road infrastructure and energy sector services. Las mujeres migrantes y refugiadas venezolanas y su inserción en el mercado laboral peruano: dificultades, expectativas y potencialidades

El trabajo se centró en las regiones de Lima y Callao, La Libertad y Piura, utilizando una aproximación metodológica mixta. A nivel cuantitativo, se analizaron los resultados de la encuesta realizada por CARE Perú, acerca de los medios de vida, medios de protección y salud mental de la población migrante venezolana de Lima y Callao, Piura, La Libertad y Tumbes a inicios de 2020. Con un marco muestral de 503 casos, se obtuvo una perspectiva general sobre diferentes aspectos de la situación laboral de las mujeres migrantes venezolanas en las regiones de estudio. A nivel cualitativo, se realizaron 33 entrevistas semi-estructuradas, que permitieron ahondar en las percepciones de las mujeres venezolanas y de las y los empleadores peruanos. Dada la situación de emergencia sanitaria, a raíz del COVID-19, las entrevistas se llevaron a cabo vía telefónica.

Con respecto a la condición migratoria de esta población, los principales hallazgos son los siguientes: Alrededor del 66% de las mujeres encuestadas tienen entre uno y tres años en el país, lo que coincide con el aumento de los flujos de ingreso durante los años 2018 y 2019. Por su parte, en relación a la documentación migratoria, de las mujeres venezolanas que se encontraban en situación regular, el 56% de ellas contaban con PTP, mientras que el 35% con carné de extranjería.

EVALUACIÓN DEL COMPONENTE DE EDUCACIÓN DEL PROYECTO “EDUCACIÓN PARA EL DESARROLLO Y LA INCLUSIÓN FINANCIERA”

En el periodo 2017-2019, CARE desarrolló el proyecto “Educación para el desarrollo y la inclusión financiera” (en adelante Proyecto EFI) con el propósito de alcanzar a 3 543 familias en situación de pobreza periurbana y rural para contribuir a mejorar sus ingresos económicos y su calidad de vida de manera sostenible.

El componente 2 del Proyecto EFI tenía como objetivo fortalecer las capacidades emprendedoras y habilidades financieras de 5 mil estudiantes de educación secundaria de cuatro regiones (Arequipa, Junín, Lambayeque y La Libertad), a través de la capacitación a docentes y dotación de recursos pedagógicos (cuadernos de trabajo de educación emprendedora, financiera y previsional) y la incorporación de la temática en las programaciones curriculares.
Este componente se enmarca en el desarrollo de políticas educativas sectoriales vinculadas a mejoras de la calidad educativa en materia de Educación Emprendedora, Financiera y Previsional (en adelante EEFP), a través de la implementación de la Competencia 19 del Currículo Nacional de la Educación Básica (en adelante CNEB), que establece las capacidades y los niveles de desarrollo que deben desarrollar todos los estudiantes del Perú a lo largo de su educación básica (es decir en todas las modalidades y niveles).
El proyecto capacitó a 465 docentes de Educación para el Trabajo (EPT), Ciencias Sociales (CCSS) y de otras áreas, con una metodología innovadora e interesante. La capacitación incluyó además la distribución del material (guías para docentes y cuadernos de trabajo para estudiantes). Docentes y directores coinciden
que el proyecto EFI ha promovido aprendizajes relevantes para la vida de los estudiantes, contribuyendo a su desarrollo integral. Los/las docentes reportaron que su participación en el proyecto contribuyó a que fortalezcan desempeños específicos del Marco del Buen Desempeño Docente: el conocimiento actualizado y comprensión de las teorías y prácticas pedagógicas y de la didáctica de las áreas a su cargo (Desempeño 3); el diseño creativo de procesos pedagógicos capaces de despertar curiosidad, interés y compromiso en los estudiantes, para el logro de los aprendizajes previstos (Desempeño 6); y, en menor medida, el diseño de una evaluación de manera sistemática, permanente, formativa y diferencial en concordancia con los aprendizajes esperados (Desempeño 9).

El proyecto EFI permitió capacitar en EEFP y planes de negocio a 7 172 estudiantes. La ampliación de 2019 permitió capacitar adicionalmente a más de 274 mil estudiantes de otras escuelas, logrando un alcance de capacitación de 281262 estudiantes. El proceso de asesoramiento y diseño del proyecto de emprendimiento fue enriquecedor para docentes y estudiantes, e implicó reflexionar sobre una propuesta de valor atractiva, viable, y que incorporara productos y saberes locales.

Northern Shan Food Security Project End-of-Project Evaluation

This report presents the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Final Evaluation for the project: “Northern Shan Food Security Project (NSFSP)”. Implemented by CARE International in Myanmar, launched on January 2017 for three years, and ending on the 30th of December 2019.

The project is designed to accomplish with it specific objective : Increasing capacities of poor and vulnerable households in remote rural areas to strengthen their food and water security through a) income generating activities, b) access to new technological agricultural innovations and products, and c) better access to market opportunities.

The main purpose of the final evaluation was a) To determine the project achievement of its objectives and outputs and b) To identify intended and unintended outcomes, best practices, lessons learned and recommendations to improve future programming in terms of sustainability. Read More...

Go Green Project in Tanzania: Access To Sustainable Energy Solutions in Moshi, Hai and Same Districts in Kilimanjaro Region

The Go Green was a three-year project (2017-2019) seeking to increase the number of women in Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, who adopt and directly benefit from clean energy products through an innovative market-based approach. The objective of this evaluation was to assess the efficiency, effectiveness, relevance, and sustainability (evaluation criteria) of project implementation and, in particular, to document the results of the project in relation to its overall objective and expected results as defined in the project document. Additionally, the evaluation identified good practices and lessons learned which can be used when designing similar interventions in the future.

This project is working in three districts of Moshi, Hai and Same. The Kilimanjaro Region is one of the worst affected in
Tanzania by the impacts of climate change and variability with observed increase in temperature, decrease in precipitation levels, floods and droughts. Go Green is directly links with the private sector to improve last mile distribution at district and village level, thereby increasing disposable household income for women entrepreneurs. RAPPORT D’EVALUATION FINALE DU PROJET OMBONA DANS LE DISTRICT DE VATOMANDRY

Financé par la Société Générale et mis en œuvre par CARE International à Madagascar, le projet OMBONA est un projet pilote qui a pour but de « contribuer à l’ancrage des associations villageoises d’épargne et de crédit dans le paysage financier de Madagascar pour un accès des plus vulnérables aux services des banques par le biais du mobile banking et de l’inclusion financière , et ainsi contribuer à la réduction de la pauvreté dans la zone d’intervention ». Il s’inscrit donc dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre de la Stratégie Nationale de la Finance Inclusive de Madagascar 2013-2017 et de croissance économique inclusive dans le PND.

La présente évaluation finale a pour but de collecter les informations pertinentes et indispensables et de connaitre la situation finale par rapport aux indicateurs du projet sur l’influence de l’inclusion financière sur la réduction de la pauvreté, et donc sur les conditions de vie des ménages dans les 8 communes du district de Vatomandry, afin de mesurer les changements induits tout au long de la mise en œuvre du projet. RESI – Rural Economic Sustainability Initiative

The Rural Economic Sustainability Initiative (RESI) aimed to support inclusive and sustainable rural economic development in four target municipalities in Kosovo: Prishtinë/Priština, Novo Brdo/Novobrdë, Kamenicë/a and Ranil(l)ug. It was financed by Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and the Municipality of Prishtinë/Priština and implemented by CARE International in Kosovo.
The approach utilised built on a very successful previous project and featured grants to MSME in agriculture, capacity development of municipality agriculture departments and a special focus on empowerment of women and socio-economically vulnerable groups.
The final evaluation of the RESI took place between 6th October and 11th November 2019. The evaluation aimed to make an independent assessment of the outputs, outcomes and impact of the project towards the end of its 36 month cycle. CARE Rapid Gender Analysis Tropical Cyclone IDAI Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe was hit by Cyclone Idai between the 15th and 17th of March. The tropical storm caused riverine and flash flooding in the eastern and southern part of Zimbabwe resulting in loss of life, injury, destruction of livelihoods, houses, roads, bridges and other public infrastructures. An estimated 270 000 people have been affected by Cyclone Idai.

CARE conducted a Rapid Gender Analysis to identify and make recommendation to the different sectors in the response on how to meet the different needs of women, men, boys and girls during and after the emergence. Secondary and primary data was collected from the 1st to the 4th of April 2019. Field Visits and Focus group discussions were held in 4 of the affected areas, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Buhera and Mutare Rural District. Through consultations with the affected men, women, boys and girls, the team was able to identify both immediate and long term needs for the communities, families and the different groups.
